How Much To Spend on High Definition Cables?

Defined Tag:
When entering the HD-era by buying a new television, camera or perhaps some other device, you will soon encounter on small snag: the world of cables for these technological wonders can be quite and endeavor to tackle. There is certainly not a lack of products to choose from, but if you want to get the best quality for a reasonable investment you had better pay attention. Some people can't wrap their heads around the fact that these cable aren't necessarily something that you buy by the meter - that is not the most determining factor as far as the price is concerned.

More than anything else, there is one thing that you need to keep in mind - A cable is a cable. There is not too many compelling reasons for you to pay more for "top quality" high definition cables when you can go out purchase the exact same item at sometimes eighty percent less. This wasn't true back in the analog era, where a cable could actually make quite a lot of difference to what was actually displayed on your screen.

In fact, in recent years companies like Monster Cable and a many similar enterprises have made huge profits over the years by convincing people that, for some not quite so clearly explained reason, a more expensive cable is a more worthwhile purchase. It is of course trues that it isn't perhaps a great idea to buy the absolutely cheapest product you can find. But the reasoning that you need to spend hundreds of dollars just on the cable is simply is not sound no matter how you view it. Do not fall into their traps and spend money needlessly when you can invest that sum on other high definition devices that actually makes a difference.

A small anecdote: I remember reading about a challenge where they offered a sizable cash rewards for someone who could determine with their ears when a supposedly superior set of cables where used. Somehow no one ever cashed in on the offer. Gee - I wonder why...

So now that we have established that all cables are created equally, which high definition cables do you need to purchase for your flat panel television or Blu-Ray player? The answer is that today the most determining factor is selecting the right type of cable for your device, the one that unlocks all the capabilities of your particular system.

You should read your instruction manual and/oror on the back of the player to determine which cable options are available to you. If you bought your television during in the last couple of years, chances are that you will need to pick up an HDMI cable, as it is the de facto standard among high definition devices. There are various versions of HDMI available, version 1.3 being the newest. The physical cable is basically the same for all versions, but for 1.3 you should try to get a cable that has been tested with speeds greater than 165 MHz.

I actually hear about that competition as well, I think someone actually had promised to give it a go but backed out at the last second. As for the cable I only wish the HDMI 1.3 would see more widespread use.
